Statement From NHPC | Sununu Vetoes The Reproductive Health Parity Act Of 2020

(Friday August 7, 2020) Governor Sununu vetoes HB 685, the Reproductive Health Parity Act of 2020, which would have ensured affordable access to safe, legal abortion by requiring insurance plans that cover maternity benefits to provide coverage for emergency or elective abortion services.

In response to this veto, the New Hampshire Progressive Coalition has issued the following statement:

“Governor Sununu continues, with his veto pen, to fail the people of New Hampshire.  The Reproductive Health Parity Act was an excellent piece of legislation, which passed through the state legislature with bipartisan support, that would have ensured that pregnant people who need abortion services could access them through their health insurance. Despite his claims of being “pro-choice,” Governor Sununu continues to take choices away from Granite Staters.”
